2017 in Movies

I was thinking of a way to end my 2017 journey through movies, and I had to make adjustments to make any kind of list because I had only seen 35 new releases when the year ended. I extended my movie year to end on Friday last week so I can do separate worst/favorite movies list and catch up on some of the nominated films, but I'm doing a summary post instead. It wasn't generally a good film viewing year for me, which is fine because I've been focusing on other aspects of life. So here's a summary of my 2017 in movies.

Thursday Movie Picks: Book to TV Adaptations

Thursday Movie Picks is hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves. Go over to her site for this year's themes and entries of other participants. This year, she brought back the television edition of Thursday Movie Picks, which is on the last Thursdays of the month. This week is about book to TV adaptations, and there are a lot of those so there are quite plenty to choose from. Here are my picks for the week:

Thelma & Louise

Thelma & Louise is about two women who go on the lam when they end up accidentally killing someone while on their way to a weekend getaway. I've always seen this movie pop up in list, and know how it ends but I haven't watched it until recently. This is a fantastic dramatic adventure film with amazing performances by the two leads.

Thursday Movie Picks: Sundance Favorites

Thursday Movie Picks is hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves. For the list of this year's themes, head over to her site and join in! This week's theme is Sundance favorites. I had to check lists of what films played at Sundance, so this is kind of a cheat. I did like a lot of films that played in the festival, but limited my choices to those I haven't used yet in a Thursday Movie Picks post. Here are my picks for the week.

Quick Reviews

There are times when I don't feel like churning out paragraphs worth of reviews, so here are bite-sized reviews from 3 releases of 2017: The Hitman's Bodyguard, Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Coco.

The Solitude of Prime Numbers

It’s rare for a non-English movie that I want to watch be available for streaming, so when this popped out, I took my chance and watched it. This is based from the novel of the same name, and tells the story of Alice and Mattias, two people whom had traumatic experiences that haunted them to their adulthood. The title refers to them being compared to twin prime numbers, that no matter how close they were, they still won’t be together. As much as I liked the book, I wasn’t a fan of the adaptation.

Thursday Movie Picks: Character Name in Title

It's the first Thursday of the year, and it marks the start of Thursday Movie Picks! This is hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves; head over to her site to see this year's themes and join in! This week's theme is movies with the character name in the title. There's a lot of choices for this so here are my picks for the week:

Reading Wrap Up: October to December 2017

Happy New Year everyone! I usually get around to posting these at the end of the quarter, but I haven't been reading as much as I would like to during the months of October to December. I preferred spending my time re-watching favorite TV shows, and it showed with how long it took me to complete my reading goals for the year. This year wasn't a great reading year for me, but it's okay. There's always next year! This is going to be a quick wrap up, with two books that I want to write about.
